Frequently asked questions
Is the data reliable?
It is official. Tap water comes from Hub'Eau, the platform of the French Ministry of Health and the French Biodiversity Office. Bathing water comes from the European Environment Agency, which aggregates member state reporting under Directive 2006/7/EC. We produce no measurements ourselves.
Why is tap water only available in France?
Because there is no European database of drinking water quality that can be queried town by town. The legislation requires states to report in aggregate to the Commission, not to run a public lookup service. Each country has its own system and we integrate them one by one. Bathing water, by contrast, is harmonised Europe-wide and available everywhere today.
Do I need an account?
No. Checking your town and searching bathing sites around you work with no account and no email address.
Do you earn money on filters or water softeners?
No. Our credibility rests on the score depending on no commercial interest. Should that ever change, it would be stated plainly on this page, and the score would remain strictly regulatory.
What if there is no analysis for my town?
We tell you. Some municipalities are served by a distribution network analysed under another name, and large cities with districts publish at whole-city level. In every case we would rather show missing data than an approximation.
